CWM Die Castings Take the Trifecta in NADCA's
2009 International Die Casting Competition

Three entries by Chicago White Metal Casting were winners in each of their categories in the 2009 Die Casting Design Contest of the North American Die Casting Assn., scoring a first-ever triple win for CWM in this international contest for Al, Mg and Zn die castings competing.
For Aluminum Die Castings, 1 to 10 lbs., CWM was the winner with a base plate control support structure for a dental workstation (left), serving as a rigid platform for mounting air, water and pneumatic control lines concealed with a cosmetic cover. Special features over a 6 in. length across the 8.5 in. center width of this plate restrict the edge-to-edge metal flow, creating a challenging die fill. CWM employed its Magmasoft simulation software in developing the optimum gating system for the this component.
For Aluminum Die Castings, under 1 lb., the winning as-cast die casting went to the CWM automotive mirror mount (center). This casting achieves the structural integrity and critical dimensional accuracy required to withstand years of
trouble-free operation through wide changes in temperature and humidity. The ball end is held to a tolerance of +/-0.1 mm that must be maintained over a long production run.
For Magnesium Die Castings, over .5 lbs., CWM's third winner was a set of two hot-chamber Mg side-walls for a medical imager (right), providing exterior cosmetics as well as critical functions to this state-of-the-art desktop unit: the die cast walls assure cassette alignment and support for rollers and motors. Die cast Mg offered optimum dimensional accuracy and repeatability, with flatness held as-cast to .032 in. or less over almost a 20 in. length, and significant weight reduction.

CEO Walter Treiber's Industry Career Celebrated
as He Begins His 50th Year at CWM
Employee associates, former employees, long-time sales representatives, suppliers, industry friends and colleagues, as well as his wife Carolyn and his extended family of four children and many grandchildren gathered at the Chicago White Metal Casting company plant in Bensenville, IL on June 15th in a surprise celebration of CEO Walter Treiber's career. The event highlighted the beginning of his 50th year devoted to the industry and the organization he loves.

| Heartfelt toasts were made. Milestones in technology advancements and association activities that have helped grow the die casting industry were noted in a moving speech by his son Eric Treiber, as CWM president and COO the third Treiber generation to lead the custom die caster. |
CWM was founded in 1937 by Walter Treiber, Sr. in a Chicago loft above a fish market. It has grown to a state-of-the-art 136,000 sq. ft. plant and office facility producing complex Al, Mg and Zn die castings, CNC machined components and contract assemblies for leading high-technology OEMs worldwide.
Under Walter's leadership, the company has introduced many important advances.

WT, CWM CEO and Board Chairman, today |
It was one of the first custom die casters to utilize Al molten metal alloy delivery to its furnaces and in-house use of the Magmasoft die flow software simulation system for optimizing Al die designs; it pioneered the introduction of hot-chamber Mg die cast production in North America and today has one of the largest Mg departments in the industry; it was an early adopter of thin wall Zn die casting technology for space-saving designs with reduced part weight and material costs, yet no loss in strength.
With industry association positions held and awards received too numerous to list, Walter never tires of pointing to one of his most satisfying career rewards: "The growth of our people at Chicago White Metal." Many of them have spent their entire lives at CWM and have seen their second and third generation progress at the company.
